Extraordinary Measures

Very cool news I just found out...

If you are going to see the newly released movie Extraordinary Measures keep an eye out for two things. One - Portland, OR landmarks since the film was primarily shot here and Two - scenes of Nike's world campus. The scene in the movie poster (below) is of the "Walk of Fame" (plaques of prominent athletes from all kinds of sports that line many of the hallways in between buildings on campus). If you look closely at the poster, you can see the plaques about face height on the pillars. Apparently the film was shot here on campus over two weekends last May & the entire location fee was donated to Portland's Doernbecher Children's Hospital. I really didn't have an interest in seeing this movie, but finding this out I may just go tomorrow.

Fire Alarm @ Pete Sampras

Fire Alarm went off around noon today. As we were standing there waiting for the firemen to give us the "all clear" to re-enter the building - we were thinking that this was a sign to get out early for our "summer hours". That didn't happen for me I ended up staying til about 4p. I will take it - it is an hour early.

AIR ELEVATOR CONFERENCE AREA

With the growth of our area, desk space for people is scarce in our building. Many conference rooms are already housing as many as four people and their desks. Now the existing conference rooms are slowly being taken over - hence the newly created "Air Elevator Conference Area." It is a totally genius name for the area I think considering many of the campus conference rooms are named after shoes, for example Air Griffey Max.

I have already attended one meeting here and it is not too bad, although just below us is the entrance to the building and sounds and voices do tend to echo. As the rainy season comes to a close for us, this means one thing - more reasons to schedule outside meetings!

RESEALING WINDOWS

So the Pete Sampras Building is undergoing some repairs. They are resealing the windows from the outside. This week was our turn to bare the cold winds when they replaced the windows at the end of our aisle. Thank goodness I am on the inner portion of the cube layout or I would have froze...

LINCOLN CITY FACTORY STORE

We made a team visit to the Lincoln City Factory Store prior to their Grand Opening on March 11th. It is only a 2 hour drive away so we all hopped in to the "Grocery Getter" (see below).

I got to relax in the backseat of the "Grocery Getter"- was a bit bored so I took a photo of myself and sent it to my peeps on groovr, twitxr and Facebook.

We finally arrive to the store and Erica realized she forgot her camera. I happened to hit the video record button on my camera and told her, "don't worry I've saved the day" - which she confirmed.

For lunch we hit up the only restaurant (mexican) that was open in this small town on a Monday at 1:30p... And with Menudo on the weekends, this must be one happening place during those days!

With food in our stomach, we were energized to finish the remaining items on our list. Thank goodness we had that energy - we did not leave the store until 6:30p or so...

Roger Federer Day

Yesterday was Roger Federer Day on Campus and Roger was so gracious enough to participate in many different activities. They ranged from leading a work out at the "Bo" (Bo Jackson Gym), playing wii tennis with 5 complete novices (he had never played with a Nintendo Wii before) to ringing at a cash register in the Joan Benoit Cafeteria.

Greg Oden's Get Well Card...

When I came in to work this morning there were signs to come out at lunch time and sign a get well card. Not knowing who it was for, I grabbed my manager and we headed out to lunch early.

When I saw the card saying, "Get Well Greg" it clicked... A couple of nights ago there was some TV coverage about Greg Oden of the Portland Trailblazers having surgery on his knee. The poor guy, number 1 overall draft pick is out for the entire year because of the surgery. After standing there thinking what to say on the card - I ended up jokingly asking, "What is a microfracture? Good luck!"

Serve The Runner

Walking in to work earlier this week, I noticed our athlete banners around campus had changed to a theme of "Serve The Runner". Since we are a "Running" company it is nice to see us get back to our roots.

Air Time With Charlie

Today Charlie Denson held his "Air Time With Charlie" radio show in front of the Pete Sampras Building during the lunchtime hour. There is an email that is sent out prior to the show asking for questions to Charlie - I had a reply email ready for my question but never did hit the SEND button.

Anyway, headed over across the way, got lunch and sat outside for a bit and listened to the show. It was cool, they touched on Nike Retail topics (Yay!) and the up n coming Hood To Coast Race. I was only able to stay for 20 minutes or so, but it was cool to see the President of the Brand in our area rather than on stage in a presentation.

Thanks Charlie!

Tarheel Cafe

I decided to go upstairs to the Tarheel Cafe in the Mia Hamm building for lunch. They offer the best house salad on campus. Took this photo as i was waiting for my pizza to go back and work/eat @ my desk...unfortunately that happens WAY too often.

Glass Cleaner

Walked out of my building to the parking lot late on Tuesday and found the gentleman cleaning the glass on the outside of the Jerry Rice Building.

Scavenger Hunt

Each month the Inspire Group (a committee of 10 or so people) create activities for the department to participate in for a moral boost. June's activity was a scavenger hunt around the campus. I volunteered to help out the Inspire Group to hand out clues at a destination. Here is the video of my stay outside the Tiger Wood's Convention Center.

Erin's Birthday Movie

So I have been watching ijustine for a while making goofy, wacky videos about random things. Today was Erin's (a co-worker's) birthday, and immediately I knew this was a chance to grab my Canon SD630 and make a video for my blog. What you see above is what I was able to create from iMovie, part of Apple's iLife software. I am a noob at using it, but so far it has been easy to learn.

Nike Campus

Summer is fast approaching, which means more days like this...

Moving from Florida to Oregon almost 4 years ago makes you appreciate the sun and how beautiful days like this can be. All of the trees and flowers have come back and are in full bloom - and everything is just so GREEN.
